Single-Family Home Plans

Explore single-family designs for a range of lifestyles, including single-story, multi-story and raised homes. Beyond the floor plan, the construction system influences how a home is built, insulated and maintained. Common approaches include:

  • Wood framing: A versatile system for varied layouts and architectural styles. Careful moisture management, pest protection and connections support long-term performance.
  • Concrete masonry (CMU): Concrete-block walls offer durability and sound-control benefits. Reinforcement, insulation and water-management details remain important.
  • Light-gauge steel framing: Dimensionally consistent framing provides another structural option. Insulation detailing must address heat transfer through the steel, with corrosion protection suited to the environment.
  • Site and foundation: Soil conditions, drainage, wind exposure and flood risk influence foundation and structural design. Raised living areas also deserve careful consideration of stairs and everyday access.

These are general construction options, not interchangeable specifications for every design. Review each plan’s stated materials, foundation and included details with your builder and design professional before selecting a plan.

Barndominium Plans

Barndominiums bring barn-inspired character to residential living, often pairing a home with garage, workshop or storage space. Simple rooflines and combinations of charcoal, gray and wood-tone finishes can create a clean, contemporary look. The style can be achieved through different construction systems:

  • Engineered metal buildings: Steel frames can accommodate broad, open spaces. The building shell, foundation, openings and residential interior need coordinated design.
  • Post-frame construction: Large wood posts or laminated columns support the structure, offering flexibility for open interiors. Post connections, foundation details and moisture protection deserve close attention.
  • Conventional wood framing: Familiar residential framing can also achieve the barndominium look, with wall and roof layouts tailored to the design.
  • Comfort and durability: Plan for insulation, air sealing and condensation control, along with corrosion protection where metal is exposed. Site conditions, wind and flood exposure also influence the design.

“Barndominium” describes an architectural approach, not one universal building system. Confirm the construction specified for each plan; the style alone does not guarantee a lower price or shorter build.
